Business & Education

Here are some examples of how we help clients to achieve results.

Freelance communications consultancy

As a freelance agency we can fully represent a client, effectively becoming part of their team.

Client: Beyond Green Advisors Ltd

Beyond Green wanted help to put their communications goals into practice during a period of growth, development and rebranding. They knew what they wanted to achieve but needed advice and support to turn their ideas into reality. Angela’s involvement ranged from mentoring and strategy planning, to writing and editing copy for their website and news bulletins. She also acted as communications consultant on a community engagement project they led on local energy planning.

“Angela quickly understood who we are and helped us convey our message across different communication channels. Her insight and advice on best communication practice was crucial to building a strong brand and communicating to wider stakeholders.”
– Lisa Bertrand, Operations & Communications Director

Client: Northern Ireland Department for the Economy

In 2017 we were awarded a joint contract with emhconnect to produce a new quarterly Skills Research Digest for Northern Ireland’s Department for the Economy, following a competitive tendering process. The Digest provides policymakers and stakeholders with quick and easy access to relevant local, national and international studies and strategies.

The department sees how valuable the Skills Digest has been in assisting policy areas in developing evidence bases and keeping colleagues updated on the latest research across the national and international scene.”

Educational resource development

We have helped clients to produce a variety of resources for students and teachers, from posters to websites, guidance material to multi-media packs.

Input ranges from helping to generate the initial concept through to advising on distribution and marketing of the final product. We can coordinate author input, copy-write or edit content depending on the topic.

Client: Education Scotland

An Enterprising Approach to Self-evaluation involved coordinating the expertise of teachers, educational advisers and HM inspectors, and software developers and designers at Speakeasy. Angela also organised the product testing, edited content and wrote promotional copy.

I worked with Angela to create an interactive self-evaluation tool for HMIE. The project was complex, the requirement broad, and it went through many iterations. Quite simply, the project would not have happened were it not for Angela’s thorough understanding of the topic, and her logical approach to translating complex data into manageable, user-friendly tools. Her knowledge of the education system and curriculum is detailed, and her understanding of the needs of educators is practical and sympathetic. Angela ‘gets it done’, and she does so with a calm good humour.”
– Mark Turner, former Head of Moving Image, Speakeasy

Enterprising Sciences and Technologies involved working with a team of educationalists, adding a business perspective to the concepts and content, and creating a common editorial style for the whole multi-layered product.

Project management

We often begin with a client having a goal in mind but the detail of how to achieve it yet to be mapped out. We work with the client to plot a course, identifiying the steps required to achieve success and ensuring a realistic schedule is set.

Client: The Manufacturing Image Group

The Scottish Government’s Manufacturing Image Group wanted to encourage young people in Scottish schools to view the manufacturing industry as a serious career option.

As project manager Angela worked with a small team to create and pilot the Make it in Scotland campaign with four elements – gathering research, organising a hands-on roadshow, producing a website, and developing an education pack. It involved engaging the interest and enthusiasm of employers and teachers, liaison with researchers and designers, managing the budget, and evaluating the outcomes. The successful pilot was rolled out across the country.

Client: The Scottish Government and Careers Scotland

The Scottish Government and Careers Scotland wanted to establish an awards scheme to recognise schools and businesses engaged in enterprise in education. Angela project managed the creation of The Determined to Succeed: National Enterprise in Education Awards from scratch. It included working with local authority contacts to establish a regional awards structure, Quality Scotland to ensure fair criteria and judging, and media, event and PR teams at various stages. The awards culminated nine months later in a high profile dinner for the 30 finalists selected from 200 entries. Following their success, the awards were established as categories within the Scottish Education Awards.

Angela supported us on a number of projects when I was heading up Determined to Succeed (the Scottish Government’s policy for enterprise education) where she demonstrated her expertise in this area and her ability to deliver what was asked (not always a common skill!) within agreed timeframes.”
– Isla McCrone, former Head of Determined to Succeed, Scottish Government
